August 18th : Message from Lulea

Dear PERCCOM students (Cohort 2013-2015),

I hope you have had a great summer all of you. Time is flying and your third semester is soon beginning. North Sweden has had a fantastic summer this year with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees during a long period during July and beginning of August. From today and onwards it seems we are entering a colder and rainier season.

The third semester officially starts on September 1, but there will be a lot of activities performed by LURC, Luleå University Reception Committee starting already this week. The program is available at http://www.lurc.se and I advise you who will be in Luleå already by then to take the chance to socialize and to take part in the activities. LURC is built up of students at LTU volunteering to welcome international students to Luleå and to introduce you to life in North Sweden.

On September 1, we will organize a start-up day for PERCCOM and another master program, Mobile Systems (which is a local master program at LTU). We lulea_campus_6will start at 10:15 in room A108 and there will be an orientation about your studies and an introduction to the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering. Lunch will be served at Wibergsgården (north part of Campus) and you will meet your lecturers from the courses you’ll take during the first quarter at LTU. We will continue after lunch and finish around 14:30.

Your schedule and other information about your studies will be available on the student web, http://www.ltu.se/edu/studentwebben?l=en. For the first quarter, your courses are D7001D Network programming and distributed applications and D7030E Advanced wireless networks (where Evgeny Osipov is your lecturer and examiner in both these two courses) and S0046P Swedish for International Students 1 (where Katja Merkle-Söderholm, is your lecturer and examiner). One idea for you would be to check the course literature already now, so that you have the required literature when those three courses start.

See you all on September 1 in Luleå!

Karl Andersson
