In this session, the students learn about Wireshark and how to interpret the Ethernet frame. To observe the Ethernet frame, the students generate ping commands. The students observe padding mechanism by changing the size of ping packet from default to 2 bytes. The student also learn the basic configuration of switch such as hostname, passwords, management IP address, etc.
To configure a switch, the students use a serial link connected to the console port in the back of the switch. And they use Putty software for the communication between the PC and the switch.
To monitor the traffic in the switch ports, the students use Port Mirroring concept.
